How do I write a good essay?

First, read the question fully and underline any key words or phrases that might tell you what the examiner is looking for. Then, create a short plan by brainstorming a few key points that you want to make. This will help you to lay out your thoughts and write a coherent, structured essay. Next, refer to the text that the question is based on and find relevant quotations to support your points. Begin to write your essay, referring to your plan as you go along. When you use quotations in your essay, explain how they support your point. To add depth to your analysis, pick out specific words or phrases. Remember to always refer back to your main question, as focus is key in essay writing. When you come to writing your conclusion, ensure it is succinct and that you do not just repeat your introduction. Instead, develop your main points and refer back to the essay question. Finally, proofread your essay for any spelling or grammar errors, or any words or phrases that do not make sense and need changing.
