solve (5 - x)/2 = 2x - 7 to find the value of x

first you want to remove the fraction, so must multiply both sides of the equation by 2, giving: 5 - x = 4x - 14. Then you want to group all of the x's on one side, so will move x to the right where the sign changes to a plus, giving: 5= 4x + x -14. we can simplify this to give: 5= 5x -14. we then want to group the numbers onto one side, so will move 14 to the left where we change the sign to a plus, giving: 5 + 14= 5x. simplify this to give: 19= 5x. we then divide by the number of x's to give the value of 1 x, therefore: x=19/5 x= 3.8
