Charles I addressed the financial weaknesses of the Crown, in the years 1625 to 1640, more successfully than James I, in the years 1603 to 1625.

Address the question with an introduction that gives insight as to why there is a financial weakness with the Crown. Furthermore highlight the personalities of the Monarch and the link it as to their policies in dealing with the Crisis of State. I.E, James is "Pragmatic" yet "Lavish" and Charles is "Provocative" yet "Frugal". Display key events along with your own argument and historiography along with historical data (if any). Eg, Charles used the Forced Loan of 1626 as a "test of public loyalty", (Cust) to which caused mass opposition and unrest within Parliament with 76 MP's being imprisoned for refusal to pay the loan. Using this throughout when answering the question is a great flex of historical depth and content knowledge and effectively lays out the argument. Finally the Conclusion should be solid and clear. Interpret the key points and state the argument. Eg, although Charles dramatically brought down the Crown's debt with the Ship Tax of 1628 he alienated the political nation and parliament to the brink, in addition he never sought to reform the outdated economy unlike his father James who addressed the Crowns weaknesses with the Great Contract of 1610.
