solve the simultaneous equation 2y + x = 8 and 1 + y = 2x

The aim of the question is to work out the values for x and y in order to make both equation correct. Therefore the best approach is to try to isolate one of the letters first. step 1. rearrange both equations so that Y becomes the subject of the equation. in the original equation 2y+x=8, you would get 2y=8-x and in the second equation 1+y=2x, you would get y=2x-1step 2. substitute y (the second equation) into the first equation to get 2(2x-1)=8-xstep 3. expand this equation to get 4x-2=8-xstep 4. work out this equation to find the value of x so 5x=10 and therefore x=2step 5. enter the value of x into the equation y=2x-1 to get y=2(2)-1 which gives you y=3Then enter both values into both of the original equations to see whether they are correct and give you the correct values.
