What happens at the junction between neurons?

Neurons are the basic cells in the nervous system. They are made up of a soma, axon, dendrites and synapse. The synapse is the end part of the neuron that is in charge of sending a message from one neuron to the next. There is a space between the synapse and the dendrites of the next neuron called a synaptic junction. There is a release of chemicals that move across this space and wake up receptors on the dendrite which restart another message (electrical impulse) in the next neuron.
