Factorise x^2 + 10x + 24

First, we need to find two numbers which add together to make 10 such as 2 and 8, 6 and 4 or 7 and 3, listing these combinations. Next, we need to do the same but finding combinations of numbers which multiply to make 24 such as 12 and 2, 8 and 3 or 6 and 4. We can see that there is an exact match of two combinations of numbers that add to make 10 and multiply to make 24, 6 and 4 and therefore, we can use these in our two brackets. To set out the factorisation, we are going to use two brackets as the equation is a quadratic and the two numbers which we have just found. Therefore the answer is (x + 6)(x + 4)
