Why can you separate crude oil using distillation?

Different substances (fractions) can be separated as they have slightly different boiling points. Different hydrocarbons condense at different sections of the fractionating column, which is very hot at the bottom and cool at the top.

List simple experimental tests to determine if either Hydrogen, Oxygen, Chlorine or Carbon Dioxide gas was produced in a reaction. State conditions and expected positive results for each

Describe how crude oil is separated into fractions

For the reaction, 2SO2(g) + O2(g) => 2SO3(g), suggest the optimal conditions to maximise yield of SO3 when the forward reaction is exothermic.
