Explain the difference in reactivity of the halogens as group 7 is descended.

The halogens become less reactive as the group is descended. The halogens react by accepting an electron into its outer shell from another atom. As the halogens are descended, the outer electron shell becomes further from the nucleus and therefore electrostatic forces between an incoming electron and the nucleus are smaller, reducing the likelihood of the halogen accepting an electron.

What elements make up the halides?

Bromine has an atomic number of 35 but has two stable isotopes- bromine-79 and bromine-81. Given that 51% of bromine atoms are bromine-79 and 49% are bromine-81%, work out the relative atomic mass of bromine to the nearest whole number.

Describe the difference between bases and alkalis, and explain acid-alkali neutralisation reactions.

propene and steam react to form propan-2-ol. If the yield is 75% what mass of propene is required to produce 410g of propane-2-ol. [molar masses/gmol-1 propene=42, propan-2-ol =60]
