C6H12O6 + O2 --> CO2 + H2O First we will list all the elements and count the number of each on both sides to compare both sides.C6 H12 O8 / C1 O3 H2 Remember we cannot change the small numbers, only the big ones in front of chemical compound We shall start with C : we can see there is 6 Carbons on the left and 1 on the right. To Balance the right side we need to put a 6 in front of the CO2 on the right side C6H12O6 + O2 --> 6CO2 + H2O this also changes the amount of O on the right. There is now 8 x O on the right (we shall come to this later.)Next, we will focus on balancing H on both sides; there are 12 x H on the left and 2 x H on the right. 2 goes into 12, 6 times. So, we will put a 6 in front of H2O.C6H12O6 + O2 --> 6CO2 + 6H2O Lastly, oxygen. There is now 8 x O on left and 18 x O on the right. Placing a 6 in front of o2 on the left will make (6x2) 12 + 6 = 18 Os on left. We have now balanced all of the elements.the new equation is: C6H12O6 + 6O2 ---> 6CO2 + 6H2O
