What happens to the arteries in coronary heart disease?

The blood vessels supplying the heart (coronary arteries) become narrowed or blocked. This is caused by plaque buildup in the artery walls. These plaques are made up of fatty deposits (cholesterol). Plaque buildup causes the inside of the arteries to narrow over time. This process is called atherosclerosis
