Describe why NaCl has a high melting point

NaCl is an ionically bonded substance, with a giant ionic lattice structureThe Na+ and Cl- ions are bonded by strong ionic bonds within the lattice, and due to the high strength of these bonds, lots of energy is required to overcome them, therefore they have a high melting point
