What is the name of the first stage of respiration?

Glycolysis. This is an anaeorbic process whereby glucose is converted to pyruvate via triose phosphate. This process gives out a total of 4 ATP molecules but requires 2 ATP molecules to convert glucose to triose phosphate. As a result there is a NET gain of 2 ATP in this stage of respiration
