What is Historiography?

The term Historiography refers to the study of how history developed as an academic discipline, specifically of the methodology of historians and hoz they write/record historical events. Historiographic methodolody most often includes the critical analysis of both primary and secondary source materials, which are subsequently synthesized into a narrative or arugument concerning a specific event/series of events. It can also refer to the theory and history of historical writing itself.

It is important to be aware of the term Historiography when answering exam questions, particularly source based exam questions. It is a useful term for assessing the provenance and biais of different historian's views.
