How do I memorise quotes?

Breaking down the daunting task of memorising quotes can be handled n a ... and ... way.

First, you should list the key themes, those which you should have established during class. A good way to do this is to spider diagram/mind map all of your best ideas. Then, go over this with a highlighter and establish your strongest and most essential points. You should have about 4-6, including at least one which contradicts your argument (your antithesis).

Then categorise these points into themes and try to establish quotes whch are multi-functional, able to apply to a number of quotes. In all, you should try to have about 20 quotes in all; when writing practice essays, try to restrict yourself to only using these as a way of memorsing them. Answering practice essay questions is a good way to find quotes which effectively satisfy a number of themes.
