(ii) Describe and explain how the horizontal component of the water jet varies from point X to point Y. (2 marks)

(ii) Air resistance is said to be negligible in the question and since air resistance would be the only horizontal force acting on the jet, the horizontal force is also 0. (1 mark) This results in the horizontal component of the jet's velocity being constant. (1 mark)Tate's Tips- Don't forget that 0 force only means 0 acceleration. It DOES'NT mean that velocity is 0 too. However, if the object is at rest while no force acts then its velocity will be 0 but that is the only time 0 force= 0 velocity.

Describe Newton's second law.

A basketball player throws his ball vertically upwards with an initial speed of v=40 m/s. Ignore air resistance. What is the speed of the ball at half of the maximum height?

Explain, using appropriate laws of motion, why the air exerts a force on the engine in the forward direction.

Can a projectile of speed 10m/s at an angle of 45° to the horizontal following a path perpendicular to a wall 8m away and 6m high reach beyond the wall? Justify your answer. Take g as 10m/s/s
