what is the difference between mitosis and meiosis

Both are cell divisions. Mitosis produces two identical daughter cells where the number of chromosomes is the same as the parent cell. These are used for growth, repair, asexual reproduction. Meiosis produces four genetically different haploid (only contain a single set of 23 chromosomes) gametes. These are used for production of gametes for sexual reproduction
