What case studies do I need to know for a 'Globalisation' essay question?

As there are many different components to globalisation, similarly you will need a sound knowledge of a variety of case studies which display an understanding of the many facets of globalisation. For example, when discussing the impacts and structures of TNCs (transnational corporations); at least two (but preferably three) case studies are needed to show whether the TNC outsources manufacturing to an LEDC or an MEDC (i.e. Nike with Vietnam and Ikea with Sweden/Western Europe) and how the organizational structure of the TNC is composed (i.e. Apple's spoke and wheel hierarchy). A full understanding of what is meant by a TNC is also needed and a nuanced insight into the positive and negative impacts of a TNC operation in at least two different countries at different ends of the development spectrum i.e. Apple's headquarters in California, and Apple's manufacturing in China.

Similarly, an in depth study of other components of globalisation such as; trade, aid and management are needed in order to ensure a solid answer at A level (examination board dependent). It is strongly recommended to check your own specification to ascertain what is required for the examination you will take but I can offer ideas and tips on how to select and learn appropriate case studies.
