How should I best approach SAQs to get the highest marks in Paper 1? Could you give an example?

For SAQs (Short Answer Questions) in Paper 1, remember that they are worth 8 marks each. You can easily get at least 6 marks if you do the following. I will use the bullet point "Explain one study related to localisation of function in the brain" as an example. Firstly, define the key terms. What is localisation of function? Secondly, address the question directly. The command term is explain. In IB terms, explain means: "Give a detailed account including reasons and causes". In this case, you would give a detailed account of the study. One study related to localisation of function in the brain is Paul Broca's case study on "Tan". To fully explain the study, you must mention the study's: aim (what is Broca trying to investigate?), method (how did Broca carry out the study?), results (what did Broca find out about "Tan"?) and conclusion (what do the results mean in terms of the study's original aims?). If you can do the above, you should have no problem getting 6-8 marks for each SAQ.
