Question: What proportion of the clock is the area covered when the time is 12:10? (Here the question should indicate the time stated and shade in the proportion of the clock to be computed.)

The key to answering this question is for the student to realise that even though the area to be computed is a difficlut shape (an arc), the clock consists of 5 more arcs of the same shape. Once the student has made this realisation, the computation of the solution is simple. There exists 6 such arcs and we are required to find the proportion shaded by just one of them. The answer is 1/6.
