Explain the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty

Parliamentary sovereignty is one of the key characteristics of British politics. The term effectively is synonymus to 'supremacy' as no other institution has power over Parliament - it is the supreme law making body. This is in direct contrast to the political system in the US where the judiciary have the power to strike down laws as incompatible and therefore unlawful.
