How would a follower of Christianity respond to the issue of Abortion?

There are many different ways that a Christian could respond to the issue of abortion. A key aspect of Christianity is the sanctity. This is the belief that life is sacred as it is a gift from God hence it should be protected at all costs. A good quote from the bible to support this idea is "You knit me together in my mother's womb" this implies God's direct involvement in conception from which one might infer that to abort a baby is to go against God. However, as time has gone on many Christians have interpreted Christian teachings in a more liberal way. In the new testament of the Bible, Jesus preached forgiveness and compassion for others. As a result, many Christians have hypothesised that it seems unlikely that Jesus would condemn anyone for having an abortion provided that they are within the bounds of the law. In the book of John in the bible, Jesus commands "Let you who is without sin cast the first stone". What this means is that Jesus expected his subjects to practice non-judgemental actions and thoughts as sin is inevitable in everyone. Thus many Christians respond to abortion by saying that though it is not ideal we should show compassion and not judge those who chose it.
