How should I go about revising for the MLAT translations? What happens if I know no vocab on the exam?

The first thing you must remember is to NOT PANIC whilst looking through past paper questions as it will seem there are a few hard words and structures that you may not have covered in your lessons or A-Level topics, but will by no means be too difficult for you to get a grips with. Firstly, start by attacking topic-related vocab you can find in your textbooks and try to find the best way to revise for you; maybe use flashcards or a fun interactive website, such as Quizlet to test yourself. Next, try to read a small news report on an interesting topic every day in your target language to become more and more familiar with day to day complex sentencing, words and structures (such as el imperfecto de subjunctivo).

When it comes to doing past papers, and the day of the exam, it is important to remember that you may not know everything that is going to come up but you will be able to find a way around it- sentences cannot alway be translated directly word for word from English to the language, so you will be able find a way to rephrase anything so that is comfortable for you. Do not be scared to ask for help from teachers if you would like some extra practice, I am sure they will be able to lead you in the right direction. Read the questions a couple of times, take a deep breath, and look out for the common structures they put in each paper to try and slip you up- with tons of practise you will recognise and get through them in an instant!!
