How does fair trade improve living standards?

The fairtrade movement and organisations linked to it strive to meet certain conditions that help improve the lives of the farmers, pickers, transporters and others involved in the growing and production of food. Fairtrade farms ensure that their workers are paid a suitable living wage, basically, they make sure to pay the people who work for them enough to be able to provide food, shelter and eduaction for their family. Fairtrade also encourages people to invest in their communities, this could be water wells, healthcare systems, better schools. This improves the living standards of the whole community not just individuals. Also, a lot of fair trade farms are in developing countries, these places are likely to be more affected by climate change and so fairtrade companies help to teach the workers and community about living an environmentally friendly life. Therefore improving living standards over the long-term as well.
