Assess the technologies can be used to help the adaption to future climate change within the continent of Africa (12-20 marks).

Assess is explain the impacts of both positive and negative impacts. The student should also recognise that Africa is a large and diverse area, with multiple climates that will be affected. Technologies can be top-down to bottom-up, and can also be technologies that have no been created yet, but have been planned. The answer should be case study led, but start off with definitions. Define climate change at the beginning, and potentially explain what adaption compared to mitigation of climate change. Explain the case study and the technology, and then explain both sides of the argument.

So the potential of building the GGW (Great Green Wall) across the south of the Sahel from Senegal to Djibouti (15km thick). + will stop the spread of desertification + increase the presence of fertile soil for arable land + increase co2 removal - not all countries will agree - large scale project that will take a long time to put into place - this has been tried in China to stop the spread of the Gobi, but disease killled- expensive, likely to have to loan from the world bank,place countries further into debt... - requires large amounts of water, which will be hard in an already arid area.
