How do I find the patterns in the abstract reasoning questions?

In general there are 5 things to look for to find the pattern in the shapes.Normally, the pattern will be formed by in one or more of these areas. These 5 things can be made a bit easier to remember using the mnemonic SCANS. Shapes: Look for patterns in the shapes of the components. Colour: Next have a look for patterns in the shapes of the components. Arrangement: Can you see any pattern in the arrangement, ordering or orientation of the components? Number: This can be number of shapes, sides, or even intersections. Size: Is there any noticeable pattern with the sizes of the components?Because of how time pressured the questions are, it's usually best to find the simplest box in the question (9 times out of 10 this will be the box with the fewest things in it) and then compare it to two of its adjacent boxes to try and find a pattern that fits within the SCANS categories.
