How do I find artistic inspiration for a project that could go in so many directions?

The key is to avoid being overwhelmed. To achieve this, you need to systematically reduce your options from "so many" , to one possible direction. You need to ask yourself what it is you like looking at. This is important, because you will be visually engaging with your own project for a long time. What art specifically excites you?
To make this more concrete, I would follow these steps:
1) Visiting art museums. This will show you what fellow contemporary art makers are producing in 2018. 2) Document what you specifically enjoy. 3) Pursue research into these areas.
After you have found at least one area (area here meaning style, theme, era, artist) which you have researched, and are still excited about, you begin to take steps in locating your own artistic license.
