Give one limitation of the cognitive approach to understanding behaviour.

One limitation of the cognitive psychology approach to understanding behaviour is that it lacks ecological validity. Common paradigms and tasks utilised by cognitive psychologists (e.g. the Stroop task) are artificial in nature as they don't reflect everyday activity an individual may be involved with, thus lacking mundane realism. As a result, we do not know the extent to which cognitive psychology findings can be generalised beyond the laboratory setting and therefore this challenges the reliability of these findings.
