How do I answer an ethics questions without just saying my own views?

Depending on what you've been taught it is great to understand the basic beliefs of religions you have learnt about. For example - Christianity and Judaism. In an ethics question if you have a summary of the key beliefs for each religion you can then think about what their beliefs mean in regards to different ethical issues. For example - Roman Catholic teaching states that artificial contraception goes against natural law. Every sexual act should be open to the possibility of creating life. This fulfils God’s command to be fruitful and multiply. Compared to Judaism - Contraception is permissible on medical grounds. For example, the Talmud permits it for very young, pregnant or nursing mothers.

‘The death penalty (capital punishment) should never be used.’ Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer, showing that you have thought about more than one point of view. Refer to religious arguments in your answer.
