Do I need to revise for the UKCAT?

This is a question I found myself asking a lot when sitting the test, often getting mixed information from various sources. Simply put, I would answer yes.

The UKCAT is probably going to be unlike any test you would have sat before. Despite being an aptitude test, revision is key to getting you familiar with the different sections of the test and what strategy works best for you in each. Maybe you find yourself struggling with Verbal Reasoning, or the Abstract Reasoning. Focusing on these sections will allow you to recognise your weakness in the area and where to improve. The UKCAT score is ultimately an average of all sections, therefore gaining a few more marks in your weakest area could benefit your overall score massively.

Revision is also important for you to become accustomed to the time pressure of the test. This is usually the biggest problem for candidates with on average around 40 seconds a question! Developing the best strategy for you in managing this time is key and can be the difference between a high and a low score.

With most medical schools taking the UKCAT score into consideration, achieving the best score possible shouldn't be left to chance. Revision will aid you in tackling all of the challenges presented by the UKCAT and could be all important in getting the score you want.
