How do I write a strong and convincing personal statement that will get me the position that I am applying for?

When writing a personal statement, whether it be for a university or a job application, it is important to highlight the most important and unique characteristics of yourself. Your statement should be no more than one or two pages long and should explain why you believe that you specifically should be chosen for the course or the job. Start with an introductory statement demonstrating some aspect of knowledge in the field. For example a recent study you read, an article or book that you enjoyed or something else that you enjoy about the topic.
Following this you should go into more details on your skills, your experience and your motivation to apply for the position. This is the part where it is important to distinguish yourself from other people that may be applying. Explain what it is about yourself and the experience that you have that makes you a perfect fit. Have you done an internship in the field? What motivated you about it and what did you learn? Have you done part-time work? Which skills did you acquire that will help you do the job you are applying for? Be sure to think about these questions, structure your statement well and concentrate on what makes YOU stand out of the crowd. That way you should end up with a strong and convincing personal statement.
