Make y the subject of the following equation: 2x - y = 5

If we want to make y the subject of our equation, we need to re-arrange our equation so that y is on its own on one side of the equation. Such as y=...To re-arrange our equation, we need to decide if we want to leave the y on the left hand side or move it to the right hand-side.For this example, let's move y to the right hand side. To do this, we need to "add y to both sides of our equation". Which is visually referred to by swapping the sign of the y from negative to positive as we change the y from one side to the other of the equation. After doing this, we will have2x = 5+yOur final step will be to move the 5 from the right hand side to the left hand side, leaving us with just y on the right hand side -- that is our goal.Since we have a positive 5 on the right hand side, this will become a negative 5 on the left hand side, leaving us with2x-5=yHence we have made y the subject of our equation. We may equally write the equation as y=2x-5
