There are 5 cards in order from smallest to largest, _ _ _ _ 8. The range is 6, the median is 6, the mode is 2, and the mean is 5. Find the numbers missing on the 4 blank cards.

The range is 6: The range is the difference between the smallest and largest value. So if the largest value is 8, then the smallest value is 8-6=2.The median is 6:Therefore the middle card must be 6.The mode is 2:The most common number is 2, therefore we need to have more than one card with the number 2, and as they are in order from smallest to largest, this must be the value on the second card. The mean is 5:When the values on all 5 cards are added up and divided by 5 (as there are 5 cards), they must equal 5. So working backwards, tells us that 5 x 5 = 25, therefore the cards must add up to 25.2+2+6+8=18 so this gives the missing value of 7.
