Outline the impact of temperature variation on weathering processes in hot deserts.

Mechanical weathering.Very high temperatures during the day determine the expansion of rocks. Contraction occurs during the night when temperatures are very low, sometimes bellow freezing point. Therefore, the very high diurnal temperature variation causes rocks to break up due to the continued expansion and contraction . The absence of water restricts vegetation growth leaving the area exposed to further weathering processes.
