Outline the location of tropical rainforests and give a brief description of their climate (8 marks)

Tropical rainforests are located from 5-10 degrees from the equator. This is due to the location of the ITCZ line bringing significant rainfall to these regions, whilst also recieving strong UV radiation from the Sun. There are 3 main tropical rainforest regions. These are- the Amazon Basin in Latin America, the Congo and the South-East Asian Basin. Other smaller areas of tropical rainforest also exist in places like Australia. With regards to the climate of tropical rainforests, they can be summarised as being both wet and warm. Annually, tropical rainforests recieve around 1800-2400mm of rain, with a wet season that lasts all 12 months. The amount of rainfall does not tend to vary dramatically, with a range of just 15-20%. With regards to temperature, the yearly average is around 25 degrees celcius (+/- 2 degrees).
