1) Within a population there is variation among individuals

2) Some of these individuals will be better suited to survive in their environment

3) These individuals are more likely to survive and as a result breed

4) They pass of their genes and these persist in the population (The proportion of these genes present increase)

5) Over time this will lead to cumulative change in the population
