“Peter sets a good example for Christians.” Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer.

I agree that Peter is a good example for Christians as he was the first disciple called by Jesus and one of Jesus' closest friends. He followed Jesus "immediately" when asked to follow him and left his family and friends behind. Peter's weaknesses set a good and realistic example for Christians as, like us, Peter was human and not perfect but he was still called by Jesus. Similar to Peter, we too, do not have to be perfect to follow Jesus. Peter recognised his faults, for example, when he denied Jesus three times, and this demonstrates a good example for Christians as we too make mistakes but God will always forgive us if we show remorse. On the other hand, Peter does not set a good example for Christians as he caved under pressure and lacked faith which we can see in the calming of the storm. Despite recognising Jesus as Messiah in Caesarea Philippi, Peter rejected Jesus' "suffering servant" Messiah. Peter does not set a good example for Christians because when Jesus needed Peter the most in the Garden of Gethsemane, Peter fell asleep three times, despite Jesus telling him to stay awake: "Could you not stay awake for even one hour?" In conclusion, I agree that Peter sets a good example for Christians as Jesus still acknowledged Peter as a friend, despite Peter letting him down and we can see this in the empty tomb: "Go, tell his disciples, especially Peter". This shows that we too can make mistakes, as long as we realise them and ask for forgiveness like Peter did.
