Describe the process of phagocytosis of a pathogen.

The membrane of the phagocyte surrounds the pathogen and engulfs the pathogen. Enzymes inside the phagocyte break down the pathogen and destroy it. Pathogen proteins can then be presented on the surface of the phagocyte.
