Find x in the following equation: 4x + 8 -2x = 10

First combine the x-parts of the equation: 4x - 2x = 2x Next move the "number parts" so they are all on the same side: 2x + 8 = 10 ---> 2x = 2 Then divide through by 2 to move the 2 from the 2x to the other side of the equals sign: x = 2/2 = 1 Therefore x = 1
