What is CBT?

CBT stands for 'Cognitive Behavioural Therapy'. It is commonly used as a talking therapy to treat disorders such as depression and anxiety. It generally lasts between 6-12 sessions and can to modified to fit different severities of mental health disorders. CBT focuses on both thoughts (cognitions) and behaviours. It works by identifying negative automatic beliefs or negative thought cycle and disproving it. The behavioural aspect identifies faulty and negative behaviour and attempts to again, alter it. Broadly, CBT works through identifying individuals' thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and reaction to a situation - it attempts to teach relaxation and coping techniques.
