What is the application process like?

So it is actually more simple than people like to say. It starts with an online application via UCAS. However, for Oxford and Cambridge the deadline is 15th of October, which is several months earlier than other universities. After you submit your application, you may be required to take a short test depending on the subject that you are applying to. You can do this at a centre close to your home and sometimes even at your school. Towards the end of November, applicants begin learning if they have been invited to interview. Interviews take place in the first two weeks of December. They're not as scary as everyone makes out to be - they're quite informal and it is more like a conversation between yourself and your tutor - both speaking about your passion for the subject. I found mine quite fun and after a day, they were over. You also get a great chance to explore Oxford or Cambridge whilst you are there to see if you really like it. Then you get to go home and enjoy your break until the New Year rolls around. Around the 12th of January, they let interviewees know of the outcome of their application. Don't be disheartened if you don't make it, you've done well to make it that far and plenty of people deserve to be there but there just aren't enough spaces.
