Explain what is meant by locus of control (4 marks)

Locus of control is the extent to which a person believes they have responsibility over their own actions or behaviour. It is often measured on a scale, where a person with an internal locus of control believes they have control over their behaviour and are therefore more likely to have a greater deal of social responsibility than someone with an external locus of control. A person with an external locus of control takes little responsibility for their actions and is likely to believe in luck or fate.
