What are some criticisms of Augustine's Soul-Deciding Theodicy?

Peter Vardy  claims that there is no way to justify dysteleology or excess suffering. Evil seems to be more definite than a mere ‘privation of good’ for example Child cruelty is not just the lack of Child support and care, it is something more intrinsically bad. Moreover, Science and the Bible seem to clash and work against eachother. The Fall contradicts the Big Bang Theory, which is now the accepted explanation for the universe. Also, Augustine's theory relies entirely on a completely literal interpretation of Genesis. In addition to this, the story of the Fall contradicts Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.
A further criticism is Fydor Dostoyevsky. He asserted in his book ‘The Brother Karamazov’ that the Free Will Defense argument is not an adequate response to evil and suffering. The evil which is created by free will is so extreme, so he argues that God is either malevolent or doesn’t exist. The principal problem of human free will is its misuse. He claims, “evil which is created by free will is so extreme that the problem of evil cannot be overcome”. This undermines the whole of Augustine's theodicy, which fails to absolve God of the responsibility for evil in the world. A final criticism, but certainly not the last is David Hume. Hume considers that the problem of evil is too great to be dismissed and is destructive to belief in God. Therefore, to accept that evil exists means accepting that God is either impotent or malicious. This leads to the death of the God of classical theism and therefore, God does not exist, or a different kind of God may be responsible for evil, which theism does not account for.
