How does the author use language to show characterisation in this passage?

The author uses colour imagery in this passage to illustrate the contrast between the two characters. Character A is described as "having a scarlet blush". This shows the fact that Character A is clearly getting angry and emotional in this scene, as he very much cares about Character B. The word "scarlet" also has connotations of passion and lust, which could imply the reasons behind his anger. On the other hand, the author writes that "Character B's face turned white". While literally showing that Character B is very surprised with the revelation revealed to her, the connotations of "white" are revealing. Implying purity and peace, the author suggests that Character B is genuinely good, and feels bad for Character A. Furthermore, the contrast between "scarlet", and "white", could invoke imagery of the devil and an angel, potentially foreshadowing the outcome of their stories. Overall, the author uses colour imagery in this passage to highlight the differing characters of the protagonists, and to warn the reader of their respective intentions.
