Name and explain 2 Moral/Ethical issues surrounding ICT.

One example of a Moral Issue surrounding ICT is how confidential people's data is. Many people need to have access to an individuals private data such as a school having the information about any child in that school. However, teachers may not have access to all of the data available for that child as it is not necessary for them to have access. The school should also not have any information about a child that is not directly relevant to the cause of owning that information. For example: the school can have information on allergies but not on the financial situation of the child. This is shown in the DPA (1998)Another example of a moral issue in ICT is freedom of speech on the internet. The government can control what is said online but some people believe there should be less control. Some reasons against government control on the internet is that it may cost money and users would have to pay to be able to access things they didn't have to pay for before; the control would be very difficult to enforce as there are always other ways to get around these such as VPN's. Some people believe that more control will mean that there will be more censors online such as within china where citizens use of the internet is heavily censored. Others believe there should be more control from the government as it will prevent illegal material being as readily available, to help protect those who don't know any better from being taken advantage of (e.g. younger children or older citizens) and to help maintain copyright laws.
