What is the best way to structure answers to evaluation questions (24 marks)?

For longer answer questions, examiners want to see you demonstrate a higher level of analysis and evaluation. The short mark answers rely solely on knowledge but the longer marks require you to do more with that knowledge by analysing and drawing judgements. The top 3 things you need to do in an answer are: 1. Give both sides of the argument—this is what the word ‘evaluation’ involves. 2. Use current examples—these could be from news articles or events that have happened. This helps you stand out and shows you’re reading around the subject. 3. Give a conclusion— this shows you are drawing judgements from your arguments which is needed to reach the highest marking levels. Therefore for the essay structure you will need:Introduction- This outlines your 4 arguments, demonstrating clarity and organised ideas.4 paragraphs- you will need 4 points and to ensure you give both sides of the argument, you could do 2 ‘for’ and two ‘against’ paragraphs. Each paragraph should follow the structure of point, evidence, explanation and example.Conclusion- Here you should give your opinion by choosing the point you most agree with and then give your reasoning. It doesn’t matter what your view is as long as you can back it up.
