How would you calculate the moment of a Force on a rigid object?

You would calculate the moment of a force on a object by first finding the distance of the force from the pivot point of the object. Following this, you would find the component of the force perpendicular to the distance to the pivot point, usually using trigonometric functions when an angle is given. Finally, you would multiply these 2 quantities together to find the moment of the force.A common example is the moment due to the wind applying a force to a basketball hoop which has a counterweight attached, and having to find the force that will result in the apparatus tipping at a given angle [A diagram would be drawn here to illustrate and mostly solve the problem]
