What is expected in Paper 1?

Paper 1 is a commentary on an unseen text. They will give you two different passages, one in prose and one piece of poetry and you decide on one of them to comment on. When commenting on the passage always remember to include SPLAT:SPLATSubject (theme, ideas, assumptions, views)Purpose (to inform, review, persuade, whose views, who is interested)Language (perspective, pronouns, how does it hook the reader, development and organization, different types of sentence structures – elliptical, imperative etc.)Audience (who aimed to, what position invited to take up, look at source) Tone (kind of text, satirical, ironic, etc.)
