What do I need to do to apply for medical school?

To apply to medical school a lot of the steps are what you'd be expected to do for applications to other subjects, but there are some extra steps as well. Here is a breif overview of the kinds of steps you can expect:1) ensure you actually want to go to medical school - medicine is can be a difficult path to follow and if youre motivation isn't coming from the right place, it may be harder for you. Doing work experience can help you figure this out (and also is essential for personal statements and interviews).2) research different medical schools - get an idea of what they are looking for in students, the kind of course they provide, what grade requirements they have and what entry exams they need you to sit. This can also involve going to open days to get a real feel for the place3) book and prepare for any entry exams you need for your application - this will be either the BMAT or the UKCAT. Information on this can be found online regarding dates , how to book and where to sit them.4)write your personal statement - this is one of the most important steps and should be started sooner rather than later. This is your chance to show them who you are and why you're a good candidate and why they should choose you.5) Apply for courses via UCAS - you should set up your account with the help of your place of study, but there will be information online. All university applications will be done via UCAS. You will need to upload your personal statement, and get predicted grades and references from your teachers. 6) prepare for your interview(s) - you should hear back from the universities you applied to about whether you got an interview. Doing mock interviews are extremely helpful. Your teachers, and people you know who've gone through the process are good people to do mock interviews with you.7) go to your interview - this can be stressful so stay calm and professional and do what you've been practicing8) make sure you keep wokring hard to get to grades - no matter how well you do in your interviews you still need to achieve the grade requirements so keep at it!This may all sound daunting but its done in bitesize chunks and there are resources for every step of the way.
