What is a helpful way to remember historical dates?

There a couple of helpful ways to remember historical dates. One way I used during my GCSE's was to make a song out of the relevant dates and events for each topic. This way enables you to replay the song in your head when you are trying to work out that date at another point. Another useful technique is to create flashcards. You can write the date on one side and on the flip side you can write information about the date. You can then use these cards to test yourself by looking at one side and saying aloud the corresponding side. Testing is a very useful way to improve memory.
