State one similarity and one difference between homologous chromosomes.

Homologous chromosomes pair up during meiosis and contain one paternal and one maternal chromosome. So, these chromosomes are the same length, have the same centromere loci and contain the same sequence of genes. However, because they are not genetically identical (as one is from each parent) homologous chromosomes can have different alleles- they are similar but not identical.
